If you haven't followed me through Bloglovin', I recommend it! That is how I read all my blogs because it's easier to keep track of them!!
(yesterday) Happy 27th Birthday to my sweet husband Rob!! I think I helped him have a great day. I bought him a Holga camera that he is having a blast with. He loves film photography and he bought 4 rolls of film for it yesterday (it takes special film, not regular 35mm film) and he's almost finished taking his second roll. If they come out okay I'll post a few here!
I want to share a bit of my heart now:
This morning I read from Matthew 20:1-16 in my Bible. It was Jesus telling a story about how a man had a vineyard and hired some people to do work for a certain amount of pay promised to them beforehand. A few hours later he saw some men who looked like they would need a job too so he hired them to work out of his compassion for them, as well as more a few hours later. They all were promised the exact same pay. When the work was completed they were all given the promised pay, but it made people who worked longer hours upset. They felt they deserved more. The man said he gave them what he promised. Then Jesus stated that this is like the Kingdom of Heaven and how the first will be last and the last will be first.
The point of this is that Christians who are changed by God who work 20+ years in ministry receive the same reward as old people who lived awful lives that give their lives to Jesus on their deathbeds. They both receive eternal life; God's grace and love. We are to be happy for those people instead of feeling we worked hard longer, etc.
Why did this in particular touch my heart? Well Here's the thing. On facebook last night, I noticed a lot of people who were posting this awful lie-of-a-status stating how our country doesn't have shelter for homeless and all these other things while other countries do. .and the end statement is what broke my heart. It stated how we should care for "Our Own" first or instead of sending all our money to Haiti. This broke my heart because people are our own. We are all humans, are we not? That is our own. We are all important to God, so if there are children dying in Haiti and people want to go and help them, that's wonderful news! If there is someone dying right here in our neighborhoods and we help them, that also is wonderful news. Why should anyone be told they are doing wrong for reaching out to others and showing them love? I do see that there is a need here, but that doesn't mean we should be blind to the people outside of our country who also have needs. We should be concerned with people as a whole!
It just shows to me how selfish our materialistic nation has become. . that they will become so blind. If people are called to Haiti, let them go there. If people are called to the country of the U.S. as a whole, let them go around the country. If there is a state, a town, or a specific area of a town that someone is called to go to in order to help them, let them do it. It is better that they help at all. I am having a very hard time sitting in the comfort of my own home when in my head I imagine the children who haven't eaten in a couple days who sleep on rocks, or the children being raped dozens of times a day/night against their will or they get beaten. This is how my mind works and how it is time for me to act.It is time for everyone to act. To help people; To stop caring so much about themselves all the time and have a heart for people who wish they had just a small portion of what we have!
