Nothing in Particular & A Heart Moment

If you haven't followed me through Bloglovin', I recommend it! That is how I read all my blogs because it's easier to keep track of them!!

(yesterday) Happy 27th Birthday to my sweet husband Rob!! I think I helped him have a great day. I bought him a Holga camera that he is having a blast with. He loves film photography and he bought 4 rolls of film for it yesterday (it takes special film, not regular 35mm film) and he's almost finished taking his second roll. If they come out okay I'll post a few here!

I want to share a bit of my heart now:
This morning I read from Matthew 20:1-16 in my Bible. It was Jesus telling a story about how a man had a vineyard and hired some people to do work for a certain amount of pay promised to them beforehand. A few hours later he saw some men who looked like they would need a job too so he hired them to work out of his compassion for them, as well as more a few hours later. They all were promised the exact same pay. When the work was completed they were all given the promised pay, but it made people who worked longer hours upset. They felt they deserved more. The man said he gave them what he promised. Then Jesus stated that this is like the Kingdom of Heaven and how the first will be last and the last will be first.

The point of this is that Christians who are changed by God who work 20+ years in ministry receive the same reward as old people who lived awful lives that give their lives to Jesus on their deathbeds. They both receive eternal life; God's grace and love. We are to be happy for those people instead of feeling we worked hard longer, etc.

Why did this in particular touch my heart? Well Here's the thing. On facebook last night, I noticed a lot of people who were posting this awful lie-of-a-status stating how our country doesn't have shelter for homeless and all these other things while other countries do. .and the end statement is what broke my heart. It stated how we should care for "Our Own" first or instead of sending all our money to Haiti. This broke my heart because people are our own. We are all humans, are we not? That is our own. We are all important to God, so if there are children dying in Haiti and people want to go and help them, that's wonderful news! If there is someone dying right here in our neighborhoods and we help them, that also is wonderful news. Why should anyone be told they are doing wrong for reaching out to others and showing them love? I do see that there is a need here, but that doesn't mean we should be blind to the people outside of our country who also have needs. We should be concerned with people as a whole!

It just shows to me how selfish our materialistic nation has become. . that they will become so blind. If people are called to Haiti, let them go there. If people are called to the country of the U.S. as a whole, let them go around the country. If there is a state, a town, or a specific area of a town that someone is called to go to in order to help them, let them do it. It is better that they help at all. I am having a very hard time sitting in the comfort of my own home when in my head I imagine the children who haven't eaten in a couple days who sleep on rocks, or the children being raped dozens of times a day/night against their will or they get beaten. This is how my mind works and how it is time for me to act.It is time for everyone to act. To help people; To stop caring so much about themselves all the time and have a heart for people who wish they had just a small portion of what we have!

Movies and Music. Suggestions post #7

Out of a 1-5 star rating. The ones in bold had more than a 3 star rating:
-----
Paper Heart 2009 (w/ Charlene Yi, Michael Cera) - 3 stars. Very cute. I loved the artsy way of how they visualized people's stories of falling in love the most.

Zigfield Girl 1941 (w/ James Stewart, Judy Garland) - 3 stars. The hairstyles are amazing in this.

The Naked Spur 1953 (w/ James Stewart, Janet Leigh) - 3 stars. boring at first but it was better down the line. I figured there were too many films of his I have to still see, this was one of them (he IS my all time favourite actor ever).

2009 animation. - 3 stars. beautiful art. The story had too many questions going through Rob's and my head. I liked it though.

The Christmas Card 2006 (w/ Peter Jason, Edward Asner)- 3 stars. not too realistic but it was a sweet romantic story and clean. I love Christmas. Probably odd that I am still watching Christmas movies in January.

Valkyrie 2008 (w/ Tom Cruise, Tom Wilkinson) - 4 stars. Beautiful film filled with courageous men who were trying to stand up for justice for their country against Adolf Hitler. Oh and the women's clothing and hair were ace in this too of course.

The Christmas Cottage 2008 (w/ Jared Padalecki, Peter O'Toole) - 3 stars. About Thomas Kinkade's start in art. Two things I didn't like is that they cut out saying "Jesus" it seems even from scripture to appease a T.V. audience or something. Thomas Kinkade is outspoken about Jesus so that was odd to me. It was okay. a bit boring at times.

Escape to Witch Mountain 1975 (w/ Kim Richards, Ike Eisenmann) - 3 stars.we used to watch this as a kids.Rob and I want to watch the new one they made, so we decided to start with the original. I still love the puppet show and the kids in this.

Gran Torino 2008 (w/ Clint Eastwood, Bee Vang) - 4 stars. Can I say incredible? yes yes. that's this. I don't like all the language in this, but it was intense and shows very much how important it is to care for others. Clint in the man. Wow.

The Christmas Miracle of Jonathan Toomey 2007 (w/ Tom Berrenger, Joely Richardson) - 3 stars. It was a nice film with a good lesson in it. I shed a single tear. it's true.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2009 (w/ Kevin James) - 3 stars. This is how I like films. clean. I don't recall any bad language or anything nasty in this. a fun film for all. I love NJ references and seeing two of the malls I've been to regularly show up in this. haha. cute.

Slumdog Millionaire 2008 (w/ Dave Patel, Freida Pinto) - 4.25 stars. Amazing film filled with so much realistic looks of what life in the slums of India is like. India is where my heart yearns a lot for the victims of human trafficking. We actually get to see a lot of that life in this film as well. The story of love is shown so deeply in this too. I loved this movie. It deserved getting Best Picture so much!

The Wrestler 2008 (w/ Mickey Rourke, Marisa Tomei) - 1 star. huge disappointment to me when the majority of a film's content are things that take away from the story. I had to skip about 7 scenes from this. waste of time. Mickey Rourke's acting was wonderful though. I don't know why Marisa Tomei even was nominated for any awards though, granted I skipped most of her scenes so that would figure.

Zathura 2005 (w/ Jonathan Bobo, Josh Hutcherson) - 3 stars. yes it is like Jumanji because it was written by the same guy to be that way. I liked it. It was cute.

Howard the Duck 1986 (w/ Lea Thompson, Jeffrey Jones) - I hadn't seen this since I was a child. I needed to refresh my memory. Man what a corny and lame movie this was. I can't believe I used to even have a shirt with him on it that I wore at age 6. ugh. haha.

Music I've been Listening to Lately:

Duran Duran - Ordinary World
Saves the Day - Through Being Cool [album]
Eisley - Marvelous Things (where I got my photography's name from)
Random Task - Dividing Line [album]
The Honey Trees - To Be With You

Here is Imelda May (from Ireland. . Rob and I adore her music big time).
This is a live recording.

Movies and Music. Suggestions post #6

I have seen so many movies since my last entry. I think I'm going to have to do two posts in a row because it's just so many!

Out of a 1-5 star rating. The ones in bold had more than a 3 star rating:

The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer 1947 (w/ Cary Grant & Shirley Temple) - 3.5 stars. I thought this was hilarious. Really adorable. Shirley Temple was a teenager in this one.

Don't Bother to Knock 1952 (w/ Marilyn Monroe) - 2 stars. Sorry but her acting was dreadful! The clothes that she and Ann Bancroft wore were sweet though.

The Edge of Love 2008 (w/ Kiera Knightly, Sienna Miller) - 2 stars. long and drawn out and depressing. great clothes though.

The Princess Diaries 2001 (w/ Julie Andrews, Anne Hathaway) - 3 stars. It was not bad. Kinda cute.

Confessions of a Shopaholic 2009 (w/ Isla Fisher, Hugh Dancy) - 3.25 stars. This made me laugh often.
Carolina 2003 (w/Julia Stiles, Shirley McClaine) - 2.25 stars. Parts were funny and I did tear up at one point, but I don't know.  I wasn't feeling this one.

As Young as You Feel 1951 (w/ Monty Wooley, Thelma Ritter) - boring. 2 stars.
Super Capers 2008 (w/ Steve Braun, Christine Lakin) - 2.5 stars. hilariously corny super hero satire. really lame though.

Bridget Jones's Diary 2001 (w/ Renee Zellwager, Hugh Grant, Colin Firth) 2.5 stars. This could have done without a lot of the content that was sexual and the language. The story was sweet otherwise.

War Dance 2006 - documentary - 3.5 stars. This was great to see how refugees from Uganda who have seen and been a part of the Lord's Resistance Army's effects were able to go to their love of music to try to get them through their tragedies.

It Happened One Night 1934 (w/ Clark Gable, Claudette Colbert) 3.25 stars. Always a fun time watching this one. The walls of Jericho scenes get me laughing every time.

She's All That 1999 (w/ Freddie Prinze Jr., Rachael Leigh Cook) 2 stars. This was better when I saw it in high school. Now it's just so stupid. I can't believe I was in high school that year to have to suffer with the bad fashion and "what if"s and such.

Only Angels Have Wings  1939 (w/ Rita Hayworth, Cary Grant) 3 stars. not bad. not amazing.

Only You 1994 (w/ Marisa Tomei, Robert Downey Jr.) 3.75 stars. I watch this movie about 3 times a year. The romance just gets me every time. The fashion was awful but I just melt a lot when I watch this. I took screen shots to show what makes me swoon most. This is also in honour of Robert Downey Jr. winning his second Golden Globe for his role as Sherlock Holmes. . .(my second favourite actor of all time, favourite of my time period)

when we first meet RDJ's character: :: sigh ::

The kissing scenes (goodness! My husband's profile looks exact so this makes me swoon more)

His lines right here (I won't give them away). :: swoon ::

These socks. has nothing to do with the scene but it's hilarious to me. this is a sweet and sadly short scene.

Sound Girl

I envy my old photography. My favourite set ever was one I did called Sound Girl in 2005. I always only post a couple photos from this set, but I reviewed other shots recently. I really enjoy it. I have even more that I just never even saw full sized (maybe soon) from this set. Odd that I neglected my favourite shoot.
This also was my favourite hairstyle I ever had in which I called "elf hair". I hope it grows this long again soon.

I thought I'd share it. What do you think?

I have been thinking about selling my old vintage coat that I am wearing in these shots but it's so dirty on the fleece part and the lining is ripped pretty badly inside. I don't think anyone would want to wear it, and I wore it regularly for three years with it looking that way.

Last entry of Human Trafficking Awareness Week

( . . and then I'll get back to pictures and other things)

A few things that came to my attention this week in the news that I wanted to share.

A Quick CNN video where a couple women talk about their own experiences when they were forced into child sex slavery in the U.S.  (they don't talk too long though). One of them was 8 years old.

In Hawaii there was a pair that pleaded guilty to human trafficking. They "hired" 44 Thai workers who were forced to pay up to $16,000 to get to America in order to pair off their loan for getting into the US.

International Justice Mission rescued 6 girls in the Philippines.  Hopefully the people caught will be tried with many years of prison for it.

Here is a list of human trafficking issues resolved or being solved within this week. For U.S. news in particular: Arrests & Rescues made in CA, PA, TX. In NC - child slave body examined, WA working at addressing the child prostitution at large there.

5 year-old sold into prostitution by her mother who had a drug addiction, in which a man is charged with her abuse and murder and rape. Also a Mexican woman was smuggled to do prostitution work (when promised a good job) in Brooklyn. Her infant was found in concrete at a home where the woman was held prisoner.an estimated 500,000 incidents of child trafficking is NOT reported in the U.S.

orphaned at 16, Young teen forced into prostitution when a woman said she found a good job for her, sold for exchance of $120 and crack cocaine. She is forced to have sex with many men a night and tried to run away three times. She got AIDS, TB, and pregnant. This is all blocks away from where the World Cup Soccer/Football event will be held, and traffickers are looking forward to more business when the World Cup takes place.

Bathildis - Godly Monarch in the late 600s

I have been reading this book called Sisterhood of Faith (it's a daily devotional but I read a few a day, so I'm in February now). The other day I came across a fascinating woman's story in which I was a little disappointed I had never heard of before in my 2.5 years of researching human trafficking. I would like to share a portion of what was said of her.

Bathildis reigned over the Frankish kingdom, using her influence and riches to fight abuses in the church and in the country.
Born in England, Bathildis was taken as a slave to the Frankish kingdom. She served in the court of King Clovis II, and the two married in 649. When Bathildis ascended the throne after her husband's death in 657, she bought and freed large numbers of slaves and permitted former slaves to own property as citizens.  Always mindful of her impoverished past, she paid debts for the poor and eliminated a burdensome tax. Queen Bathildis also used her influence to correct abuses in the church, where at that time offices were bought and sold.
Bathildis founded St. Denis monastery and a Benedictine convent. She restored the Abbey of St. George, near Paris.  Although in later years she suffered with a painful illness, she spent her last fifteen years living and working at the convent instead of enjoying the comfort of a palace court.  Her subjects admired her generosity and faithfulness to God's work.

What an inspiring woman she was! A slave who made her way to the top for a specific reason and purpose.  I love the fact that somehow she pleased the king so much that he married her. She sounds like a modern day Esther (for her time). I was trying to think of what life must have been like for her after her crude slave life came to a fall and royalty rose her up. I am sure the high society of the kingdom looked down upon her for all she did for slaves when slavery was certainly legal during that time. No wonder why she spent so much time outside of her palace helping others. She cared more about what God wanted of her rather than what people probably prodded her about ignoring. That is the type of woman I want to be: more concerned with doing right in God's eyes than listening to peers.
