I know I actually look cold in this shot, but it was actually pretty warm feeling to me! I was sweating!
My husband took these by the way (he wanted me to give him credit!)

Shirt, Belt, Trousers all are from Vivien of Holloway

Old photos from the early 1970s

I have posted many old photographs before, but I wanted to share some old shots of my parents that I love and have loved since I was a child.

Here is my mom waitressing. I honestly don't know what year this was taken in but it had to be between 1969-1972 or so. This is one of my all time favourite photos ever.

My dad at a Civil War Re-enactment. I have always loved the colours in this. . and yes he is wearing a wig.

This is from my mom's yearbook from 1969.
This is from 1971 when my parents got married. I wore the veil when I got married as well.
My parents, probably in their first year of marriage. My dad's forever mustache (mustaches scare me).
I just love this. it's sweet.

Movies & Music Suggestions #9

ratings are 1-5 stars. anything over 3 stars and is really worth seeing, is in bold.

Bride Wars 2009 (w/ Anne Hathaway, Kate Hudson) - 3 stars - It was absurd how crazy these ladies were but I really enjoyed how the ending was not necessarily happy for everyone like a lot of films are.

North by Northwest 1959 (w/ Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint) - 4 stars - Very interesting and very good and also very long (which it takes a lot for me to stay interested that long). It is about a man who gets mixed up and accused of far too much while getting all  mixed up with a woman along the way.

Return From Witch Mountain 1978 (w/ Kim Richards, Ike Eisenmann) - 2.90 stars - Not as good as the first one. I had never seen this sequel before now, while seeing the first a few times. It was much too corny and less interesting but still it was cute.

Ghosts of Girlfriends Past 2009 (w/ Matthew McConaughey, Jennifer Garner) - 3 stars - I would have liked this much more if there wasn't so much sexual conversation, granted it wasn't too nasty, and the most nudity there was were women in underwear, but I just think that took away from the story :: shrugs :: anyway, it was funny and made me cry too.

Tea For Two 1950 (w/ Doris Day, Gordon MacRae) - 3 stars - Ah, I adore Doris Day as usual. I hadn't seen this one in a while but it was fascinating with all the music and the lovely love story!

Firstborn 1984 (w/ Teri Garr, Christopher Collet, Peter Weller, Corey Haim) - 3 stars - This I just watched because it was the 56th Robert Downey Jr. film I've seen but he wasn't in it very much at all. The story though was intense about a teen and his mom who is working hard at raising him and his brother. The issue at hand though is that she gets a boyfriend who turns their world around.

The Boy In Striped Pajamas 2008 (w/ Asa Butterfield, Jack Scanlon) - 4 stars - Amazing idea of what life may have been like for those who were children during the cruelty of Nazi Germany. This is about a young boy who moves near a camp and meets a Jewish boy whom he befriends while being taught that Jews are evil. Very good film.

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes 1953 (w/ Marilyn Monroe, Jane Russell) - 3 stars - This was cute. I still can't stand Marilyn Monroe's acting or singing at all, but I did laugh a few times. This was about two friends - one who is being investigated to see if she is loyal and the other who is falling for the investigator.

A Letter to Three Wives 1949 (w/ Jeanne Crain, Linda Darnell, Ann Sothern) - 3 stars - when they receive a letter from a friend saying they had an affair with one of their husbands, they each try to review their own husband and the love they share or shared.

Bell, Book and Candle 1958 (w/ James Stewart, Kim Novak) - 2.3 stars - A witch tries to win over a man whom she finds interest in, but she hasn't the ability to love even though she has the ability to make others fall in love with her. Can this be different for her? This movie was just a bit boring for me for some reason and Jimmy Stewart is my favourite actor ever! I was a bit disappointed.

Morgan Stewart's Coming Home 1987 (w/ Jon Cryer, Viveka Davis) - 3.25 stars - A teen who lived most of his childhood in boarding schools and has quite a love for horror movies ends up finally spending time with his parents who haven't seen him in many years. He has dreams of what a family is and hopes they can have a lot of fun together. Only thing is, his very rich parents and politician parents might not be anything as he had remembered them to be. . and love comes his way which might make things even more difficult for him! This movie I thought was really funny and cute. My friend Mellie would love it. ;)

The Sandlot 1993 (w/Tom Guiry, Denis Leary) - 3 stars - A boy who doesn't know how to play baseball or anything about it, but is fascinated with wanting to play with a bunch of kids he has watched play, ends up making friends and learning the game. It shows a bit of the fun in adolescence.

Igor 2008 (voices of John Cusack, Molly Shannon) - 3 stars - This was interesting. A place called Malaria where they raise many Igors to work for evil scientists. this particular Igor is very smart that he creates his own evil and wants to be a scientist. . but when one of his projects goes wrong and is anything but evil, he ends up having some decisions to make. cute cute!

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button 2008 (w/ Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett) - 4 stars - I at first didn't want to see this because it is nearly three hours long and I have a hard time watching such long movies unless I do so in parts, but for some reason my interest was constant in this. A baby was born as an old man and instead of aging, he gets younger. Things are not easy for him and in time they only get harder especially when he meets the love of his life. Really great direction of photography and quite uniquely done!

Music I've been listening to lately:
....too many things that I forget how in the world to remember them all to list them here!
Over the past couple of days though I've been listening to a lot of Eisley, so I'll share with you the song in which I named my photography Marvelous Things!

Mother & Daughter Brown Overall Outfits

This is from Autumn of 2005. The outfit I believe was all from Delias. I gave the shirt to one of my best friends. I sold the overall dress. The boots I still wear.

I had bought the outfit for one purpose alone.
I used to stare at this photo of my mom (from 1971 on her honeymoon) and would tell her how she should have kept the outfit for me. Thing is I wouldn't wear it today and am glad I found it in skirt-form instead. I don't know how she was able to wear such short shorts!

This scripture continues to speak to me and I just felt like sharing it to you, friends.

"Listen to advice and accept instruction, and in the end you will be wise. Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails. What a man desires is unfailing love; better to be poor than a liar." -Proverbs 19:20-22

Doctor Who Fashion & Today's styles

My father started watching Doctor Who in the 1960s and he got my brothers into it which in turn got me into it in the 1980s. One of my brothers video recorded every episode available (since some were destroyed in a fire). It has been my favourite Television show ever since back then. I have noticed a lot of outfits worn by old companions from the classic seasons have been coming back in style through places such as urban outfitters.

Lalla Ward (who played Romana II) - my favourite companion
I put this together of modern finds of how you could put together a similar outfit. What do you think? I'd wear it if some of these items weren't so pricey!!!

Now to get a similar sailor look I found this shirt here from Chadwicks which is affordable

Or From Bettie Page Clothing (I so would wear this) I found this beautiful sailor dress

I'll post other entries like this in the future. This entry made me want summer!!!

Retro Family Photos - The Grands

I love old photographs, don't you?

Well Here are my grand-parents (and supposed ones too - you'll understand shortly) since I showed Great and Great-Great-Grand-parent shots in previous entries. My Grand-parents were all born in the late 10s/early 20s and are all dead now, but I was never close to them (that was my hope). I envy people who have been extremely loved by their grandparents or showed so much kindness or kindness at ALL from them. I never experienced ONE kindness from any of mine, which is devastating for me.

Here is my Dad's mom and his step-father. This shot is from the 50s.
Considering how much they fought all the time I really like this photo a lot.

My grandmother was in no way attractive at all but somehow she got a lot of men after her. I think they were all looking at her body instead of her face and her vast amounts of selfishness that she held on to even on her deathbed. :: shrugs :: I get my hips from her.
This MIGHT be my Dad's dad. . .well anyway he has his last name but Ms. Selfish only knew for sure.
I assume the baby is one of my Aunts (my dad's half-sibling. . .or full sibling. . Ms. Selfish knew). My dad sorta but not really looks like him so it could be my Grandfather.
but then again this guy in the photo my one aunt is holding here also might be my dad's real father which I think my dad looks a LOT like. We only know that he was called "Lucky" as a nickname. He had his own family and was a cop and that's all anyone knows about him at all. Affairs are nasty.
This is my Poppy (my mom's dad). He died in 1977 so I never met him, but I would have liked to. He was a horrible man until his last few years when he turned his life around and gave it to God. He'll be one of the ones I get to meet in heaven. My mom looks a lot like him.
This is my Grandmother (mom's mom) in the '40s. I think she was ugly too EXCEPT for in this picture.
She had a very rough life. I'll leave it at that.
This is her wedding picture in 1946 I think.

When my Poppy died, his younger brother Joe (and his wife Barbara) took over the role of father for my mom and they were super close. Basically these are my mom's second set of parents and the better set too. They had always been like REAL grandparents to me. I cried when my Great-uncle Joe died a year and a half ago, but not when my grandmothers and step-grandfather died at all .  I feel badly about that, but oh well (and I do forgive them). Therefore I post this picture. This is from 1956 I think, when they married. I love them. Aunt Barbara is still alive; she, was born in the 30s.

Movies and Music. Suggestions post #8

It's that time again!

Out of a 1-5 star rating, The ones in bold had more than a 3 star rating (and are worth seeing!)
---------

The Pirate 1948 (w/ Judy Garland, Gene Kelly) - 2.75 stars - although it had good singing and dancing, the story was a bit boring. This movie did inspire me to work out again though (after seeing Gene Kelly's ripped thighs)

Monkey Business 1952 (w/ Cary Grant, Ginger Rogers) - 3.25 stars - hilarious. I laughed a lot and I don't do that watching movies too often. It is about a husband and wife who use themselves as test subjects for the husband's scientific research of a type of fountain of youth formula. I loved it so much! great acting.

The Love Guru 2008 (w/ Mike Myers, Jessica Alba) - 2.25 stars - Funny and such but too much uncalled for sexual jokes that would just go a little TOO overboard.

Seven Pounds 2008 (w/ Will Smith, Rosario Dawson) - 3 stars - Had some great atributes to how we should treat others and care to help people, but the ending was far too awful to me. :: sigh ::

The Philadelphia Experiment 1984 (w/ Bobby Di Cicco, Nancy Allen) - 2 stars - major cheez-ball film. they somehow during the experiment opened a wormhole in space that caused two men from 1943 to go to 1984 but the acting and the story . . wow. haha. It was bad! They had '80s hair in the '40s too what is up with that?

My Science Project 1985 (w/ John Stockwell, Danielle Von Zerneck) - 2 stars - more cheez-ball film! science project that caused time travel and people to go in places they don't belong, etc. It also brought about some high school romance in the process but it was so lame!

Minority Report 2002 (w/ Tom Cruise, Samantha Morton) - 4 stars - Rob is a big Philip K. Dick fan in which this was a short story originally. It is about a society that has three special gifted people called "Pre-Cogs" that can predict when a murder is going to happen. Therefore to keep peace police will arrest people for not doing things that they were going to do before they do them, but is there a fault in what these pre-cogs see? Very good film.

How To Be 2008 (w/ Robert Pattinson) - 2.5 stars (although my husband would give it 3.25 stars) - It was good but just a bit long and drawn out that made it boring at times. It is about a young man who is still searching for himself. He loves his music and poetry but it just seems like no one understands him, especially his parents. He contacts a self-help book author to help him personally. My hubby liked this one much more than I did and he mentions the movie from time to time since seeing it.

The Natural 1984 (w/ Robert Redford, Glenn Close, Robert Duvall) - 4 stars - a man who is born with a gift in baseball is excited about starting his career as a pitcher when tragedy strikes his life to delay him from entering for another sixteen years as a batter/fielder. People try to find out who he really is and he ends up finding out more about himself in the process. a beautiful story. I may just read the book someday.

The Palm Beach Story 1942 (w/ Claudette Colbert, Joel McCrea) - 3 stars - a woman who ends up wanting a divorce from her husband, separating herself from him, but doesn't want to take any of his money because she cares about him. Then she ends up being a love interest of a rich man in order to help her husband gain a good job. . .but does she really still love her husband?

Under the Biltmore Clock 1986 (w/ Sean Young, Barnard Hughes) - 1 star - boring and pointless. don't bother. good costumes though.

Paper Moon 1973 (w/ Tatum O'Neal, Ryan O'Neal) - 3.5 stars - this movie takes place during the depression years (it is filmed in b&w - beautifully directed). A young girl's mom died and a man who arrives to the gravesite during the funeral ends up driving the girl to the only known relatives. Turns out the man is a con artist in which the little girl helps him - and maybe is more of a con-artist herself! (who constantly believes that he is her real father - which in real life they were father and daughter). I had been wanting to see this film for a decade and finally I did and it was worth it!
