The Very Merry Christmas Dress

I still have a slight bit of this bronchitis left (thanks for all the "get well" wishes), but I definitely feel so much better than what I had been. I even took outdoor photos on Christmas because I was feeling a lot better (and doing so didn't make me worse). This was all before the snow came (two days afterwards). Thanks to my wonderful husband Rob for taking these shots of me!

I wish you could see more of the top of my head, because there is a pretty loop on the center (next to the top corner of the bow)

By this point I was starting to get a little cold!

Catching Up with My Family

Love146 fights modern day slavery and restores young kids out of child exploitation.  They had asked that on the 23rd everyone would light a candle. During the underground railroad of the 1800s, people would light a lantern or candle and place it in a way that would tell runaway slaves that their home was a safe place for solace. Love146 asked to do this in remembrance of slaves of the past and out of recognition of today's slaves (150,000-300,000 are in the US alone each year).

Backtracking to the 22nd, my son Micah turned 2! We were going to go to my In-laws on the 18th to celebrate there but with my bronchitis being awful (when I took those indoor photos), we instead only got to REALLY celebrate his birthday on his real birthday at my parents' house (since I do laundry there once a week).  I try to make him feel special since Christmas is so near to his birthday, and make it known that his special day IS his special day.

Here he is eating his cake (and I gave him a haircut too for his birthday).

And here is Leto eating the cake too

ugh I look so sick. That's my dear friend Laura who came to celebrate too.

She bought me a mug for Christmas that I drink hot cocoa out of. It says "Justice: Amos 5:24 - '..Let justice rolls down like waters..." A version I love says, "But Let Justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream"

On Christmas Eve we all went to have brunch at my friend Loryn's place. She made us chocolate chip waffles, regular waffles, corn muffins, and bacon. SOO good! This is Loryn and her boyfriend Devon.
She bought the boys a puzzle and noise makers! (which they have been having fun with!)

For Christmas we bought the boys each a little skateboard, a book, a puzzle, and a little dinosaur. All the rest of their presents were from their grandparents, aunts and uncles. Here's Leto on his skateboard.

And Micah - a Z-boy at heart?

Rob's sister bought Leto a Rex from Toy Story - but Micah sleeps with him at night.
During the day Micah is attached to the little dinosaur we bought him.

Rob's parents also gave Leto a kid digital camera to take photos of his own with. so here's Rob (in a shirt I bought him) showing him how to use it. He's been having fun with it. I forgot to take photos from the following day spent with my family. oh well.

I hope you all had a blessed Christmas and will have a very joyful New Year!!!
Tell me all about what you did on Christmas.

Staying Warm in the Cold

It snowed quite a bit here last night, but before all the catching up I am going to finally do on my blog, I have been meaning to post photos of my coat for a while. My previous coat was in really bad shape (my mom called me a hobo). I didn't really mind but did want to be fully warm!

This "Missing Crayons Coat" is from Modcloth. It is relatively warm even here in cold snowy NJ. It does help to wear a long sleeved shirt underneath it though.  I was expecting it to be even warmer, but alas, it does the job and I am not one who likes to complain and tries to be content with what I have (or finds contentment in having less even).

It was rather windy when I took these shots

haha. . .I wasn't ready for this one and was talking while wind blew in my eyes. hehe.

And this is a little peak at what my outfit entry later in the week will be of (. . but the outfit is underneath the coat).

Modest Fashion Features #3

There were so many good outfit entries everywhere this week that I had a really difficult time choosing because there were so many. I have a feeling it is going to be much harder for me to find outfits to feature at all when it gets warmer out (since people tend to wear so much less). I really love all these outfits!! I am happy with my final decision though.

2010 Top Outfits of Justice Pirate!

I don't want to go too crazy with photos to review this year. I figured I'd just state what my favorites were and your favorite of the year. Keep in mind I do have at least one more entry before the end of the year too!

I had these in my thoughts which inspired making this entry. I know my husband would add one other photo to this (which he likes more than the rest) but these are my personal favourite photographs from outfits I wore this year. The first photo actually is probably my all time favorite outfit too but I don't want to post repeat outfits in the review entry. I am selling the second and third dresses on etsy right now.
Click the links to see the actual entries with more photos of each outfit.

This was actually tougher to choose from. I had a hard time choosing between the third outfit and one other outfit that I adore. I am happy with my end result though. I know that some of you are aware that I re-sell a lot of my outfits after time to keep things cycling, but these outfits I don't plan on selling at all. I knew the first two outfits were going to be posted for this!

And now for the ultimate favorite. This photo/outfit was featured the most, received the most comments on the web, won the most contests, etc. I still own this dress and do plan on selling it in the late spring after I wear it a little more.

The Bird in Her Cage

If you follow my twitter (which is now open to the public) then you will know that I have bronchitis. I very much wanted to go outside to take outfit photos, but because my husband was worried for my health (since if I get worse I could get pneumonia) I stayed inside. I'm very sorry. My home is a bit lopsided on angles too so that doesn't help these shots.

I've worn this shirt with a few of my outfits but it looks gorgeous with this skirt. I really adore how the skirt is a mix of plaid and gingham - both that I adore!

Movies & Music Suggestion Post #34

Ratings are on a scale of 1-5. Anything rated over 3 stars and is in bold, is totally worth seeing! - I rate pretty harshly.
The Baxter 2005 (w/ Michael Showalter, Michelle Williams, Elizabeth Banks) - 3.25 stars - This story is about a guy who is "the nice guy who never gets the girl". When finally he is feeling like he's going somewhere, his fiancee' apparently has an ex that he never heard about who comes around. He asks for advice from a former temp that worked for him and is just in complete confusion. This is a really cute love story and I enjoyed it. My husband was always a huge fan of MTV's The State (most who were also in Reno 911 afterwards), and Michael Showalter wrote and starred in this movie and brought in a few of his friends from The State for cameos. Therefore my husband rates this movie higher than I do (4 stars he says). It was a relatively clean movie other than the fact that you see a couple in bed together (wearing PJs) and you see a woman's back as she is getting dressed. Of course Michael Ian Black's character walks around in underwear and there is a guy dancing in a spandex unitard thing. Only a few profanities used.

The Last Party 1993 (Documentary by & w/ Robert Downey Jr.) -2.25 stars - RDJ film #62 - I thought it would be worse. It was kinda interesting at times because it just showed a bunch of perspectives of various people and their views all from different parties, however they focused most on the Democratic view which was favored throughout the documentary. Interesting thing is that I have seen most all of the interviews RDJ has had with people and he's stated how his political views have changed since he was in prison, but he can't vote because of his time there. There is some female nudity/stripping for a short time and a scene of RDJ running around in protest in tight pink man underwear. There is a lot of language too.

Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World 2010 (w/ Michael Cera, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Kieran Culkin, Anna Kendrick, Jason Schwartzman) - 3.5 stars - I probably would have rated this much much higher. I loved how this film was done so much. It was humorous and entertaining. I am sure some of you understand how hard it could be to deal with the past of your love interest, I know I have battled that. Scott Pilgrim literally has to battle his love interest's past. He needs to defeat his new girlfriend's 7 evil exes. He also has to deal with a few of his own ex girlfriends and the hopes of getting his band signed. Great music in this film. My favourite character was Knives. The content: girl in underwear a few times and slight make out sessions, sexual references, guys kissing each other and shown in bed together (sometimes more than a few) but nothing shown, language (most which is censored), girls not wearing too much, someone gets an orgasm, lots of fight scenes as well.

Auto Motives 2000 (short w/ James Cameron, Robert Downey Jr., Josh Hopkins, Moon Zappa) - 1 star - lame. It was just a short about people and their cars but they tried to make it all with a storyline that was just awful. Language in it. (RDJ film #63)

Searching For Bobby Fischer 1993 (w/ Max Pomeranc, Ben Kingsley, Laurence Fishburne, Joan Allen) - 2.5 stars - Great story but boring at times that I could have probably fallen asleep. This is about a young boy (based off of a true story) who becomes a chess genius at 7 years of age. He has interests in sports as well but his parents see an interest and gift in their son for chess and enter him into competitions. He has two different types of teachers who help him feel like he could be the next Bobby Fischer (another chess genius). content: name calling, I know there was a city street scene showing drugs being bought.

Charlie St. Cloud 2010 (w/ Zac Efron, Amanda Crew, Ray Liotta, Charlie Tahan) - 3.25 stars - While Charlie has a great life ahead of him, a tragedy strikes in his life. As he is dealing with the pain of the emotions, he stops his life from moving on. A girl with a hobby he shares in sailing starts to help him move on but there are still twists in that story as well. This was very good, very interesting, and it showed that there are second chances given to us and a purpose for it. The content: some language, a sexual scene where a couple is lying together naked (nothing seen) but they show that clothing is being removed, a quick glance of a girl in a sports bra, lots of half naked Zac Efron.

The Stork Club 1945 (w/ Betty Hutton, Barry Fitzgerald, Don DeFore) - 3 stars - This wasn't a long movie but it felt like it for some reason to me. It is about a woman that works at a night club who saves a man's life and receives an inheritance. She waits for her war boyfriend to come home, but if he sees that she has all this money, will he still love her? It was very sweet but a little ridiculous at times too. Beautiful outfits and hairstyles and music. The only content is a bikini worn in the beginning and some light kissing.

The In Crowd 1988 (w/ Donovan Leitch, Jennifer Runyon, Joe Pantoliano) - 3 stars - I love me some good 80s films, especially clean ones (and I want their clothes). This is based in the 60s when dance television started to sweep the nation. A local station is played constantly by Del who loves to dance. He decides he is going to sneak in and be on the show no matter what. In the process he is also looking for love, as there is a girl who he dreams of dancing with. Is it going to be everything he dreamed after all? It was really sweet but really sad all at once. content: light language, light violence, outfits that are a bit revealing, kissing

How To Train Your Dragon 2010 (animated with voices of Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler, Craig Furguson, America Ferrera, Jonah Hill) - 4 stars - I cried, okay! Stupid me crying to an animated movie. It is about a viking village that is used to killing off dragons on a daily basis. When Hiccup who is a puny viking is looked down upon, he finds a dragon no one knows much about and starts to learn about it while he is in training to kill dragons. Hopefully he'll be understood and appreciated in time. Very very good movie. the content: dragon killing and talk about killing plus name calling.

Music I've been listening to:
Last.fm Christmas Radio (which is pretty much the only thing I've listened to all week)

Josh Harmony - There's a Rhythm album - favorite tracks: "There's a Rhythm", "I Live", "Thank You Lord"

Atomic Tom - The Moment album - favorite tracks: "We Were Never Meant to Be", "Take Me Out", "Maybe I'm Wrong", "You Always Get What You Want"

I know I tend to share music videos, but instead I share with you a song that keeps getting stuck in my head that I have on a Christmas comp and that also plays on the last.fm station. It's really pretty.

Boleros Create a Celebration!

Already another outfit? I couldn't contain myself from holding off on posting this one. I've mentioned before that there are really no good thrift stores whatsoever in NJ. It's true (believe me, I've been searching for ten years). The oldest items most sell are from the 90s.

However, a few months ago a new store opened not too far from where I live called Ively's Closet. The first time I visited the shop there was nothing small enough to fit me. The store owner has since saved pieces that she would think would fit me. She loves my outfits and well. . .she saved me this one that I purchased! It looks like a late 50s/early 60s dress. I just love the Bolero that came with it.
