Movie & Music Suggestion Post #37

Ratings are on a scale of 1-5. Anything rated over 3 stars and is in bold, is totally worth seeing! - I rate pretty harshly.

Nowhere Boy 2009 (w/ Aaron Johnson, Kristin Scott Thomas, Ann-Marie Duff) - 3.75 stars - Excellent movie about John Lennon's upbringing and how he came to learn about music and learned how to play it. It is mainly about his life experience with his Aunt Mimi and his Mother Julia. It was so weird because Aaron Johnson looked a lot like him and sounded so much like him at times that it was very convincing. Great fashion throughout the film too. content: a sexual scene of John doing things to a girl in a park. She is fully clothed but she is making a lot of noise and they show that his hand is up her skirt as she stands there, then John takes his pants off (he's in boxers) and the girl kneels down (nothing shown). . Wish they took this scene out! Also he gets caught with a porn magazine by and they show part of the cover but the woman is dressed. There is language throughout the film, teenage drinking and smoking throughout the film too. There is teen violence (punching) as well as trouble making seen in some parts.

My Six Loves 1963 (w/ Debbie Reynolds, Cliff Robertson) - 2.5 stars - A famous actress grows weary and is to rest for a while. She finds a bunch of kids hanging out at her place without anyone to take care of them so she decides to do her best to help them along with a pastor. Very sweet story.

For Keeps 1988 (w/ Molly Ringwald, Randall Batinkoff) - 3 stars - I saw this once a long time ago and could only recall one scene. Now I got to watch it in full so I can remember it very well. It is a great story to show you how love can survive through hard times. A high school couple have plans and goals for their future and yet their plans are also to be one day married to one another. While still in high school, they find out they are expecting a child which is going to obviously change everything. content: lots of language throughout it, underage drinking, sex scene (they show nothing but microscopic sperms and egg), making out, talk about abortions, unwed pregnancy, a scene of a couple showering together (nothing seen, but body parts are talked about), Pretend sex noises (purposefully made to get a reaction, but people are clothed), neglect of a baby, lots of arguing

Killers 2010 (w/ Ashton Kutcher, Katherine Heigl, Tom Selleck) - 2.75 stars - A plain boring woman goes on vacation with her parents and meets a guy who sweeps her off her feet, but little does she know that his job was always to kill people (an assassin). He hopes to settle down and give that life up, but maybe other people have different plans for him. This was a very funny movie. I enjoyed it but there were just some things that I didn't think were very necessary or I would have rated it higher. The romance in it was adorable though. Content: sexual talk, cleavage, man without shirt on for quite some time, a whole scene for a few minutes of woman in her bra, man kissing each bosom quickly while she is in her bra, woman getting a dress cut off because it's too tight in which you see slightly some of her backside then she is covered with a towel, slight language - one F word, violence and gore, wine and beer being consumed, kissing, Tom Selleck's mustache haha.

My Sister Eileen 1955 (w/ Janet Leigh, Jack Lemmon, Betty Garrett) - 3.25 stars - Two sisters try to find a place to live and to get good jobs thinking they'll make it without a problem. Problems start arriving though. An older sister feels like an old maid as her beautiful sister draws crowds of men. All she wants to do is snatch one of her own without them wanting to go to her sister. This is a really fun musical with a beautiful wardrobe, a fun cast, and lots of comedy and blooming romances. Splendid in every way. I'm in love with this song from the film. content: girls dressing/undressing (while in long slips and such)

Marjorie Morningstar 1957 (w/ Natalie Wood, Gene Kelly) - 2.25 stars - This is a depressing love story about a young woman who meets and falls in love with a director at a summer camp. They each have hopes and dreams of making it big in the entertainment world, but the pressures and hard work cause issues in their own relationships. This story really confused me at times (not sure why). I still don't understand the ending. There is a little bit of singing and dancing in it, but not too much. Each person acts really great but at times it seemed a little over-acted. content: immodest dancewear, drinking & smoking, talk about cheating or being sexual together (very subtle)

A Christmas Carol 2009 (animated w/ voices of Jim Carrey, Cary Elwes, Colin Firth, Robin Wright Penn, Gary Oldman) - 2 stars - Yeah I know Christmas is over but I was waiting for this to arrive since November but it had a very Long wait on netflix. ugh. Anyway finally got to see it and was let down. It was so boring and I could tell there was just a huge focus on the animation instead. a "look what I can do" thing. My sons didn't even seem interested. I love this story though and could never get sick of it. content: scary ghosts extremely slight British language

Little Manhattan 2005 (w/ Josh Hutcherson, Charlie Ray) - 3 stars - I love little kid romance stories. This one is about a boy who never seemed to pay mind to girls at all but suddenly all he can ever do is think about a girl he knew since he was very small who now is his karate partner and hangs out with him all the time. She becomes his vision of perfect beauty and he is love sick. This was an adorable movie. Thankfully the story ended pretty realistically too which was great. content: vomit, a mom who isn't divorced yet who is dating, people kiss, a boy and girl wrestling playfully together, two "hell" words, karate against a bully, adults drinking wine

Beauty & the Briefcase 2010 (w/ Hilary Duff, Jaime Pressly, Michael McMillian) - 1.75 stars - A young woman has dreams of writing for Cosmopolitan Magazine. When she gets her storyline planned, she sets out to work in a business filled with men so she can date as many as possible for research. the overall outcome was cute, but the rest was really sad for me to watch because it was very much about picking up guys and getting constant attention. content: sexual talk, very very short tight skirts, cleavage, people modeling in saran wrap, men's chests, men checking out women, woman bending over in different ways during a business conference and the woman being acknowledged as a sexual distraction, making out on a bed, man underneath a desk too close to the short skirted woman when his girlfriend walks in, card game playing using male bodyparts (nothing shown, just mentioned)

Extraordinary Measures 2010 (w/ Harrison Ford, Brendan Fraser, Keri Russell) - 3.25 stars - A couple works hard to provide for his family, and has two children that suffer from a disease that has a 9 year lifespan. In order to try to keep his children alive, he seeks out a scientist who has theories for an enzyme that can save and help heal people who suffer from the disease. This is based off of a book and a true story (not sure how much since I never read it). It was such a good movie and very heartfelt and sad at times but really sweet too. content: lots of language - especially the S word by Mr. Ford (he says it so much that I was actually surprised it was rated PG!), woman in a slip, kissing scene of married couple on a couch.

The Long Winter

For Christmas, my husband bought me all the Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I just finished the 6th book called The Long Winter in which the Ingalls family endured hardships of blizzards for seven months! I decided to look up old photos of Laura Ingalls Wilder. I decided on Sunday morning to go to church dressed with an inspiration from the books I've been reading mixed with the 1950s. I have posted myself in this 50s skirt before back in December, but they were indoor shots (due to the bronchitis I had) and I have been dying to get photos of myself in it outdoors! My friend at church's reaction to my outfit was, "LITTLE WOMEN!" . . I have yet to read that book too ;)

It was about 17 degrees outside when I took these plus it was windy. My eyes watered a little from the cold wind. The following day it was -4 degrees, so I picked a good day for photos! Now as I type this up I am staring out of a window as the snow is falling and is said to create about 10 more inches for us. I'm feeling very blessed to have such weather, as odd as that sounds. I guess reading The Long Winter was helpful to see how blessed I am.

I borrowed one of the flowers from the giveaway I'm holding right now (hope whoever wins it doesn't mind). If you would like to win it as well as two other hair accessories and a pair of earrings, please take a look at my previous entry.

Modest Fashion Features #7

This week was really rough to find inspiration. I like when I have too many things to choose from, but I really had a hard time finding inspiration, so much so that this is the first feature where a guy is featured because of it! I think that is what I'll do if I can't find enough female fashion inspiration, I'll post modest male fashion instead. Just as well, these are very lovely and I do love each of these outfits!! Hope you will too!

Winter Gingham

I went to a golf course to take these shots. It was interesting to me that there were cross-country skiers there as well. One of them was interested in what I was doing and talked to me a little about his camera and photo classes he took. He was nicely bundled up while I was trying to get through taking all these shots, since it was cold and I didn't have my coat on. I didn't feel cold until I saw how warm he looked.

I'm well aware that I've worn far too much gingham in my outfit entries, but I can't help it and have an addiction problem to it.

When I ran out to this spot to take these shots I ran through about 9 inches of snow and it went inside my shoes. I had to take them off and put them back on again but really my feet were pretty frozen. I found a flat area of land and cleared an area there so I could take these. If you are interested in learning how I take my photos, I was interviewed and featured the other day on Crimson Rosella's blog. Also a photo of mine was featured on Sunshine and Carousels' blog for a hair accessory she made that I wore; the same set had a photo featured as inspiration for Casey's Elegant Musings blog.

No, these are not victory rolls. . just a few twirls of fun. Sorry they are a little messy, but I had slept in them overnight.

I post too many photos. . .sorry folks. I'm vain.

I apparently didn't straighten my hair too well, but it is nice to see how long my hair is here. On twitter I stated that I have 9 more inches to go before it gets back to this (was 34" long).

Flower Hairclip: Lila-Jo
Vintage 50s dress: Ively's Closet
Vintage cardigan: Dear Golden
Belt: Delias
Necklace: c/o Gigi Shop Online (giveaway win)
First Day on the Job Heels: Modcloth

(all photos taken by myself other than the two of me in the parking lot by my husband Rob)

Movie & Music Suggestion Post #36

Ratings are on a scale of 1-5. Anything rated over 3 stars and is in bold, is totally worth seeing! - I rate pretty harshly.

Flipped 2010 (w/ Madeline Carroll, Callan McAuliffe, Aidan Quinn, John Mahoney) - 4 stars - I really love cute little love stories that are not only interesting, but very entertaining as well. This movie was very much amazing. It is about a boy named Bryce and the annoying girl that lives across the street named Juli. The really cool thing about this movie is you get different perspectives of how they met each other and their feelings for each other. It is hilarious and really heartfelt too!!! I loved it so much! Content: some name calling, mentioning Playboy and activity to it, about three or four profanities

Orchestra Wives 1942 (w/ George Montgomery, Ann Rutherford) - 3 stars - Connie is in love with big band music. She is wild about Bill who plays the trumpet who she is able to meet. When they practically just meet, they end up eloping. She becomes an orchestra wife dealing with the drama of the other wives on the road and issues that are known in general about her husband as well. It was a cute movie. A little funny at times with things that take place. There is a lot of Glenn Miller music throughout this movie and really fun swing dancing to also watch. What beautiful outfits and hairstyles as well. content: some kissing, lingerie (covering parts), assumed affairs.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel 2009 (w/ voices: Justin Long, Christina Applegate w/ actors Jason Lee, David Cross, Zachary Levi) - 2 stars - This is one of those movies where you say, "oh no, don't do that!" when you smell trouble coming up. It was a bit too cheesey for my liking and I used to adore watching the cartoon in the 1980s that had the Chipettes in it too. I get the theme song in my head often. This story . . The Chipmunks are going to high school now. Will popularity issues split them up? At the same time three female chipmunks are hoping to meet them and make it big as well and might be the target of the chipmunks' former manager which could cause problems. content: name calling, high school bullying

Three Days of the Condor 1975 (w/ Robert Redford, Faye Dunaway) - 3 stars - A man who works for the CIA reading so many books to try to figure codings out. When tragedy strikes his department, he finds himself on the run and trying to find answers. This is a thriller movie that was very interesting but so confusing. I hated the ending and feel all "AHH! but. . .???" content: violence (lots of shootings in this), language (mainly the F-word about 4 times and a couple lighter words), a sex scene (but I started to check my email during it on purpose so I didn't see if there was nudity or not since I don't want to see that as it is) I did however see thigh touching and kissing.

Fitzwilly 1967 (w/ Dick Van Dyke, Barbara Feldon) - 2.75 stars - a butler who enjoys his job also has a secret job where he steals things to keep his boss "wealthy: since she doesn't really have much money even though she thinks she does. Of course a secretary hired starts to find their activities to be very suspicious. This was a cute movie. It was funny and sweet too. I loved Barbara Feldon's outfits in this. content: kissing. Stealing.

Letters to Juliet 2010 (w/ Amanda Seyfried, Christopher Egan, Vanessa Redgrave) - 2.5 stars - I have a hard time seeing movies with Amanda Seyfriend (my husband can't stand her at all), but I endure because of the stories she has portrayed that interest me. Anyway this movie was cute and predictable, so it wasn't as enjoyable as I hoped. A woman who works checking facts, goes on vacation to Italy with her fiancée. She comes across an area where letters are daily posted on a wall to Juliet Capulet about love, loss, and hope. In searching about what goes on there, she ends up writing back to a letter dating 50 years earlier that was hidden. She goes on a journey helping a woman find an old love. content: light kissing, people groping a naked statue bosom, a couple profanities, cleavage

I Capture the Castle 2003 (w/ Bill Nighy, Rose Byrne, Romola Garai, Henry Thomas) - 3.25 stars - This is about a family who lives in a castle in England that is not really in the best shape. The father of the lead character Cassandra is a writer who has become poor since he stopped writing. Cassandra also loves to write. When two American brothers that have wealth come around eventually trying to sweep her sister Rose off her feet. Cassandra learns about love in various forms. This was a very powerful story of love and "coming of age". It was also very sad. content: a scene of a woman's bare top half as she enjoys the rain (could have done without this scene), a somewhat far away shot of a vagina (I guess not too many people catch that), profanity, thoughts of seductions, make-out scene and other light kissing scenes, casual smoking and drinking, imprisonment of a character against their will

Little Miss Marker 1934 (w/ Shirley Temple, Adolphe Menjou, Dorothy Dell) - 3 stars - This is one I always wanted to see with Shirley Temple. Finally I got a chance to and it was a wonderful story! A little girl is dropped off by her father as debt collateral at a horse race station but is soon orphaned. A stage singer and a bookie deal with the child best they can while their heart goes out to her. It was a very sweet and darling story. content: little 5 year old girl's chest is shown in one scene as she is changing for bed.

Gypsy Girl aka Sky West and Crooked 1966 (w/ Hayley Mills, Ian McShane) -2.25 stars - At first this was very interesting. A girl lost part of her memory after something tragic happened in her life as a child. She goes often to the church graveyard burying dead animals. She is very confused and a lot of people in her village don't seem to like her or treat her very well other than the children. A guy who finds her to be very interesting keeps watch on her and wants to get to know her more. Very odd film but the last quarter of it was really sweet. content: name calling, some violence

The Candy Shop 2010 (w/ Mattie Liptak, Doug Jones, Ron Prather, Abigail Monet) - 3 stars - This is only 30 minutes long and you can watch it through this link. It is a really well made short film about child exploitation, and using an interesting concept of how girls are just sweets in a candy shop and are right there under your noses in your own town being forced into a supply and demand money making service. I really recommend you all see it. I'd rate it higher if it were longer.

The A-Team 2010 (w/ Liam Neeson, Jessica Biel, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, Bradley Cooper) - 3 stars - I watched the show a lot as a child since my father is a Vietnam veteran army special forces airborne so I think he felt a big connection to it. The movie's characters were very much like the original actors' portrayal but gave them also their own unique shine too.  This story is about four war veterans who take on special jobs. In particular they try to recover money plates that are being used illegally. There was a lot of action in this and fun unrealistic adventure that is really exciting.  It was enjoyable. content: woman with cleavage and a slight bit of her bra is shown, magazine pin-ups in a mechanic shop (really both of these clips are in the first 5 minutes of the movie and are fast). language and violence.

The Road 2009 (w/ Viggo Mortensen, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Charlize Theron) - 3.25 stars - No I didn't read the book. My husband has it and plans to read it soon though. This is about how tragedy strikes and strips the world of rescources needed to survive life. A family is left trying to cope with survival through starvation. A father and his son are on a journey of survival, keeping on a look out for cannibals who show no mercy.  It was a very sad and depressing story but was so interesting. The really sad part is that the ending leaves you unsatisfied. I'm hoping that the book's ending was different. haha. Well done. content: violence (bodies, skeletons, wounds, body parts. . all shown throughout scenes), language, memories of being with his wife like touching her inner thigh to lead to a main body part for arousal. . (nothing shown).

Modest Fashion Features #6

I truly slacked in posting entries this week. I was going to post my movie/music entry today but didn't have time to.It is almost done and will be posted on Monday instead. I am really glad that so many people have been really enjoying these Modest features!! The problem I have in doing this though is that I end up following so many blogs after searching for inspiration every day! If you've commented on my blog at all, I have been to your blog. Usually I will comment but if my day is too busy (I do have two small boys to run after. . which I do a lot) I just browse and close the window. I will spend about an hour and a half every day looking at blogs which usually makes me 5 days behind in blog reading.

Snow Angels and Dinosaurs. RAWR!

Thanks once again to my husband Rob for taking these
(so I did't have to set up the tripod and all)

You can see my roots here too well. . .time to dye my hair (and brown again since the red came through!).

I think my landlord is trying to trap an animal (the box on the left)

I love these oxford boots that I got over a year ago, but I really don't wear them enough.

My nose started to get really red from the cold

I was watching these kids in one of the yards behind our house where we live and they kept sneaking up to see what we were doing while making bird noises at my sons. I said "Hi" to them at one point and they were shy and one said it back.

Re-Mixed Outfit details
Plaid shirt: Target
Blue striped shirt: Delias
Boots: Forever 21 (. . when I used to shop there)

My sons had some fun playing in the snow (of course it has snowed more since about three more inches or so - so much for that supposed snow storm.) Here's Leto.

He made me take this photo of his dinosaur. "He wants to be in a picture too!"

and Micah with his dinosaur too

Leto made a million snow angels. He was so cute!
My other cute snow angel who couldn't really figure out how to make any like his big brother

Rob was trying to teach Leto how to make snowballs here.

Modest Fashion Features #5

Sorry I didn't post this yesterday as I usually do, but I wasn't online at all and was so pre-occupied that it slipped my mind. One of the cool parts about this week's feature is that a submission that was entered also became a favorite of mine that day so it is featured here! Keep submitting photos and I might make it my inspiration of the day!

Tutu-Tip-Toe

This shoot was more just for fun. People have asked me in the past if I wear petticoats underneath my dresses. Usually I wear two, a frilly white layered tiered skirt and a tutu-type-petticoat (which I'm wearing both in all these shots). Other times I wear just a slip or just one of these pictured items. It is interesting how a girl who used to be extremely anti-layers has become very layered.

Shirts: Delias
Petticoat & skirt:  Bipperty Bopperty & ?
slight Loose Socks: From Japan via 2004 (I have extreme loose socks too)
Shoes: Lulu*s
Flower accessory: Lila-Jo

I'm the skeleton on the far right that took ballet too seriously for a 7 year old.
