Wedding Party!!!! Wooo!!

My brother Jeff got married on Saturday. I did the decorations (will be posting some of them later in the week), was in the wedding party (as was my husband Rob and son Leto), and was the photographer (as was my husband Rob).
It was very lovely (but very tiring too). We had a great time with family. It was a small wedding with maybe about 50 people. I like small weddings! I'll post more wedding photos probably next week.

I've made it known several times that I love yellow dresses. You can only guess how happy I am that I got to wear one as a bridesmaid!

My Outfit:
Dress & Shoes & Flower from David's Bridal
Bracelet c/o Shabby Apple
Necklace c/o my mom

Rob's Outfit:
Shirt & Tie from Kohls
Pants are Heritage 1981
Shoes are Doc Martens

I did my own hair too (and made the bobby pins as well)

Here are my wacky older brothers and I (the groom is the one in the hat)

Me and my brother Jeff making our "Stan Laurel" faces (we've been doing this together since we were kids)

Modest Fashion Features #24

One of the great things about finding bloggers to feature is that some of them come with a passion to stand up for those who are oppressed, cancer victims, etc. This week I learned about Elaini who I featured on Monday. She is wearing the same dress for 100 days to help raise $50,000 (she has $2,000 so far) for orphans in India. She has a heart to reach out to them but has some severe health problems which keep her from living that dream to be with them physically.

My brother is married now. I'm really worn out! I'll be posting decorations I made and photos I took of the wedding throughout the next couple weeks!

Movie & Music Suggestion Post #44

Movie Ratings are on a scale of 1-5.  Anything rated over 3 stars and is in bold, is totally worth seeing! - I rate pretty harshly.

Thor 2011 (w/ Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman) - 3.25 stars - As a child, I used to read my brothers' comic books. Thor is my eldest brother's favorite, as well as mine.  I used to think it was so interesting how they spoke in old English and the really amazing power that Thor had was so interesting! I was happy yet nervous when I found out they were going to be making this into a film. I was afraid it would be cheesy. Some of this movie was a little boring at times. It was visually gorgeous! Thor is going to be king but has a heart for constant battle.  Due to disobedience he is banished and sent to earth.  He bumps into some people who are so interested in the phenomena of the sky and universe. There is a fight against evil throughout the movie. We get to see life in the kingdom of Asgard and life on earth. I enjoyed it, but was hoping for better. content: Thor showing off his muscles, kissing, violence, PG use of language

Dance with Me, Henry  1956 (w/ Bud Abbott, Lou Costello) - 2.75 stars - I laughed a bunch while watching this.  It is kinda cute!  the D.A. investigates debts when a person is killed.  When Lou's adopted kids are threatened to be taken away, he and his wife try to seem like a "normal" family, but don't really seem to know what that means (these are hilarious scenes).  The dresses are so cute in this film!! I love them. content: a kid smoking a cigar (can't think if there was anything else though)

Shake, Rattle & Rock! 1994 (w/ Renee Zellweger, Howie Mandel) - 2 stars - I never saw the 1956 version. This was so typical 1990s yet it is based in the late 50s.  A young girl wants to make it big in the music business. She ends up dancing on the local T.V. show and sends an uproar with her parents. It was a pretty corny film. The music even sounded too much like the 90s at times. It was a bit uninteresting but there was some good music in it. The storyline slacked. They also made this look like there would be a sequel. content: teenage rebellion against parents, language, teenage smoking, kissing, underwear shown and highlighted while dancing

Shadow of a Doubt 1943 (w/ Teresa Wright, Joseph Cotten) - 3.25 stars - What a very interesting story! I love Hitchcock movies though. This is about a man who is on the run and cops are after him. There is a young woman who is quite obsessed with her uncle in which she was named after. He is coming to live with them for a while and she is so excited! However, maybe there are more secrets he is keeping to make her like him less the more she's around him. Very well done. I loved the clothes and hairstyles throughout it. content: talk of murder, hurting other people with aggressive physical force

Jeremiah: The Bible 1998 (w/ Patrick Dempsey, Oliver Reed) - 2 stars - Okay, this had some things added to it and changed than what is written in the Bible, but the overall essence of the story is embraced. Jeremiah was a man who was used by God to reveal to the people to stop their idol worship and for the king to stop his oppression. He took a stand when no one else would. I just think that it could have been done better, but it wasn't that bad.

Stone of Destiny 2008 (w/ Charlie Cox, Kate Mara, Billy Boyd, Ciaron Kelly, Stephen McCole) - 3 stars - based off of a true story about the Stone of Destiny which was from Scotland but sent to England in the 1920s. In the 1950s a young man wanted desperately to bring it back to his homeland by stealing it for National Pride's sake. content: some language, drinking and smoking, and kissing

Mildred Pierce 1945 (w/ Joan Crawford, Jack Carson, Eve Arden, Ann Blyth, Zachary Scott) - 3.25 stars - A Who-Done-It film! A woman seems to have issues and is taken in for questioning when her husband is found murdered. She recounts the story of what her life had been like over the past several years. She had men in her life, a business she ran, and two daughters that meant everything to her.  This is a really excellent story and had beautiful art of photography. I kept thinking different people killed him but we find out at the end who really did it! Beautiful clothes and hairstyles once again. content: two-piece bathing worn, kissing, murder without the blood

Featured Band & album

Oasis - (What's the Story) Morning Glory? --------------------------------------------
I decided to pull out an album from 1995, which is not normal for me, because I honestly can't stand the majority of music from the 1990s other than my beloved Cranberries.  I will however state that Oasis was very big when they came out and often compared to becoming the next Beatles (or that they sounded and looked like them as well). I would listen to "Don't Look Back in Anger" over and over again, but most people always favored "Wonderwall" which I also like. Perhaps that one was played out on the radio far too often! Songs off this album that I also like are "Some Might Say", "Cast No Shadow", and "Champagne Supernova" (well . . minus the getting high part and such)

Flooded with Gingham Joy!

I was interviewed for Lagelle so make sure that you read it!! Tahisha runs the blog and also has beautiful vintage pieces in her etsy shop that I recommend checking out!

My husband has a new camera and he hadn't really taken many photos yet so I told him he needed to use it. It was really rainy and sunny (back and forth) all day Saturday! There are flooded areas (as usual) near where we live. This golf course (which we have a bunch all around where we live) was one of them.

This is only one section of the course but lots of the green have large watery areas too.

Look at the cute buttons on the back of this dress.

It started to rain again after we left here.

I had a musical moment I had to live out in this outfit. I think gingham does that to me.

Modest Fashion Features #23

This week there has been a lot on my heart and mind. There will be some really great changes happening, I think. One more week until my brother's wedding. Expect to see a few posts the week afterwards. I've been sick with a cold now for four days, so hopefully I'll be all better before the wedding. I really appreciate all the support that these modesty features get! I wouldn't be able to do them if you ladies didn't wear some beautiful and modest outfits though!!! Check out all the gorgeous outfits featured throughout this week!

Not Your Average Schoolmarm

When I wore this, one of my brothers saw me and called me a schoolmarm (school teacher from the 1800s). It does make slight sense considering I homeschool my older son. I love it though. I did fashion this vintage outfit to look much older than what it was on purpose. I know I made an entry yesterday, but I won't be posting again until Saturday or Sunday. ;)

Little Boys Everywhere!

I'm behind in my posts. I meant to post this a few days ago but instead posted the movie/music reviews since I was also behind in posting that entry! It will partially explain how busy I've been lately too.

I did a photo shoot of my friend Brienne's 6 month old son (maybe 7 months old now) and also a couple shots of his older brother who is a year and a half old.  I've photographed the older one a few times now plus when he was in the womb, and the younger one while in the womb. Here are some of my favorite shots from the shoot!

A couple days earlier from the previous shoot, my sons got to celebrate their friend's 4th birthday at Chuck E Cheese. Here are just a couple shots from it.
My two (in case you didn't know) are the ones with the hat and the long hair.

Modest Fashion Features #22

If I seem a little unresponsive to your blog entries lately, it is because I've been working on decorations for my brother's wedding that is in a couple of weeks. I just honestly don't have much time for the internet lately as a whole, and really I like it that way. I try to keep up on your blogs though best I can when I can!

My parents are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary today (the 15th) which is so exciting!! They went away for their second honeymoon! I hope they had a great time together! Here's one of their wedding photos from May 15, 1971!!

Movie & Music Suggestion Post #43

Movie Ratings are on a scale of 1-5.  Anything rated over 3 stars and is in bold, is totally worth seeing! - I rate pretty harshly.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader
2010 (w/Georgie Henley, Skandar Keynes, Will Poulter, Ben Barnes) - 3.75 stars - I was raised on the Wonderworks version as a child and also read the book when I was a teenager. They forgot one important part towards the end, but I'll let that slide if they fix it whenever they do The Silver Chair (which I know they're doing The Magician's Nephew next for some odd reason which is my favorite. . Silver Chair is my second favorite).  The story goes that Lucy and Edmond are dealing with life back home but seem to miss Narnia. They stay with a relative and have to be around their annoying cousin Eustace. What will take place for them on this new adventure?? Very well done. I liked it much better than Prince Caspian (which was my least favorite story anyway).  content: fighting, name calling, slavery

Coco Before Chanel 2009 (w/ Audrey Tautou, Benoit Poelvoorde, Alessandro Nivola) - 2.75 stars - I think parts of this film was too slow, which is why I rated it so poorly. It is about the life of fashion icon Coco Chanel who revolutionized how many women dressed during the early-mid 1900s (and of course we know her name is still carried presently). This is about what her life was like before she became known at all. It was depressing at times with how she was treated or what went on in her life. content: sexual talk, kissing and undressing (but no nudity at all - just immodest clothes or lingerie), lots of smoking, talk and notions of affairs, drinking, innuendos

Road to Zanzibar 1941 (w/ Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, Dorothy Lamour) - 2 stars - So this is the first Roat-To movie out of the many that they all did together. The storyline is always the same, two guys who are together always and who drive each other nuts but also depend on one another and seem to fight over who gets the girl. This had a different ending than what they usually have, which was interesting. However I was not able to enjoy this one as I have been able to in the other ones. It wasn't funny enough, although one situation was pretty good. content: immodestly dressed women

Heartbeat 1946 (w/ Ginger Rogers, Jean-Pierre Aumont) - 2.75 stars - A woman is taught how to pick-pocket, but she never dreamed that she would find herself around high society life.  Situations cause her to be around them more and more. Is she more honest than she thought? It was a cute movie and some romance intertwined too! content: immodest outfits, stealing, assumed affair

11:59 2005 (w/ Raymond Andrew Bailey) - 2.75 stars - This is about a guy who records news stories for a big News channel.  When there is a big break in his career, he finds himself reliving or finding out things that doesn't seem possible in order to try to solve the case. There is a conspiracy behind it all and he's learning more and more about it.  This movie was boring for most of the film but towards the end it was very interesting! I cried at the end. content: lots of language, some violent situations (nothing really shown).

Shrek Forever After 2010 (w/ voices Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz, Antonio Banderas) - 1.75 stars - An interesting and finally final story from Shrek. It wasn't that good but the moral is nice. Shrek seems bored with doing the same thing every day in his life. Somehow he gets to learn what life is like without what he was used to. Everything is going to change for him and he wants to set it back to normal.  content: Seriously, why do they need to have hidden sexual comments in these kid films? other than that there is kissing and ogre violence and a harem of witches for one of the characters

I Love Lucy [season 1] 1951 - 3.75 stars - These are all so funny ever still today! Lucille Ball is such a goofball and I love her too! If you haven't seen the first season at all, it is amazing. I laughed often. We all know that the story is that Ricky (Desi Arnaz) has a show and Lucy always wants to be on it and gets her landlords in on it often (and trouble usually follows close behind). content: immodest costumes, smoking, drinking, playing pranks

Sarah's Choice 2009 (w/ Rebecca St. James) - 2.25 stars - I think this movie could have been better filmed, but it obviously was done on a low budget. It is about a woman who becomes pregnant and goes through different perspectives of deciding on having an abortion or not and how it might change a life be it for better or worse depending on what she decided. It wasn't bad but it was a little boring. I expected it to be better, I suppose.  content: talk of unplanned pregnancy and abortion

Some Like it Hot 1959 (w/ Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, Jack Lemmon) - 3 stars - This was funny. I thought I wouldn't like it because a lot of Marilyn Monroe's acting annoys me since she's pretty much the same in every film.  However, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon's characters were really great. They are a couple of musicians on the run because they witnessed the St. Valentine's Day Massacre. They hide out in drag while befriending or falling for one of the girls in their band.  content: immodest outfits, transvestite situations, some drinking, lots of kissing, talk about breasts

End of the Spear 2006 (w/ Louie Leonardo, Chad Allen) - 2.5 stars - I read a book a couple years ago about Jim Elliot who was one of the missionaries who is slightly in this story (but not too much).  This is from the perspective of a different missionary's sons who lived during the events while trying to learn the language and translate the Word of God to the Waodani tribe in Equador. A lot of this showed the perspective of the tribesmen which was interesting. Anyway it's based off of a true story but I don't think it depicted it as well as what it really was like from what I learned when I read the account of Jim Elliot's wife (like something that I thought was REALLY important for WHY the missionaries were attacked is not in this!) content: Loads of violence. . goodness. it's not REALLY graphic, but they show enough. Also tribes people who don't wear too much (loincloth type of stuff). Something bothersome is that they have a newly maturing pre-teen girl topless which was unnecessary.

North Country
2005 (w/ Charlize Theron, Woody Harrelson, Sissy Spacek, Michelle Monoghan) - 3 stars - This is based off of something that happened in the late 70s regarding really bad sexual harassment towards the slight few women who worked in the mines with MANY men. One of them stands up against them to receive better rights since she was being threatened, mistreated, and treated like a piece of meat. This movie however also paints an idea of what else might have happened in her life and how life is like for her family as well.  It was very interesting especially at the end but was so boring in the beginning half of it! content: sexual harassment tactics and cruel words to demean a woman, violence or dirty tricks against women, instances of rape, no nudity at all but there is sexual content with clothing on (but shown in a not so nice way other than one part where a guy grabbed a girl's rear while she was in her jeans), lots of language (which ruined a lot of the movie for me honestly).

Boys Town
1938 (w/ Spencer Tracy, Mickey Rooney) - 3.25 stars - When a bunch of boys who seem to just roam the streets causing problems end up being shown kindness by a priest who decides to build them a home, they learn how to really live life in peace and feel loved. Of course when Father Flanagan decides to take in a new trouble maker who wants to rule the roost, it creates a new set of problems. This is supposedly based on a true story (which I'd love to learn more about).  This movie was amazing. You felt a connection with the kids and how things might have seemed to be for them on the streets and you see the heart of someone who actually cares about them when everyone else seems to want to push the kids down and lock them up. content: punching, playing pranks on each other

Featured Band & album

The Aggrolites (self-titled album)
--------------------------------------------

For over a year now my cell phone's ringer has been the beginning of their song "Mr. Misery" which I love so much. They call their sound "Dirty Reggae" (which was another of their albums' titles). I tend to think it sounds like a combination of reggae, funk, soul, and second-wave ska! I really love this band. If you have kids you may have heard them play some songs on Yo Gabba Gabba too (which I saw after I was already listening to them for a couple of years).  They have a new album that came out in February called Rugged Road that I have yet to hear too!
Some of my favorite songs from this album are "Funky Fire", "Mr. Misery", "Thunder Fist", "Countryman Fiddle", "Work to Do", and "Someday"
[the album version sounds better but this is the best I could post of it]

That's a Wrap!

A few of you asked how my Mother's Day went (through twitter). It was very lovely. My husband woke me up (I was so tired from being up far too late the night before) by having the boys say "Happy Mother's Day" one at a time to me while I was still in bed (younger one did it first which was surprising since usually he does what his big brother does). I honestly don't mind not receiving anything (cards are nice) for Mother's Day, but my sons each "bought" me a manga (Japanese comic book) and Rob bought me the Twilight graphic novel and a book I've been wanting to read for months. In case you didn't realize it, I really love to read. Rob cooked me breakfast and made me chocolate milk. I then sang with the youth kids for church (went very well). We spent a few hours with my Mother-in-Law and Rob's family which was very nice (don't worry, I saw my mom at church. She is amazing. Check out this entry I did last year about her. I'm SUPER close to her).

I don't know if you remember my Easter Outfit a couple outfit entries ago, but the woman I bought the vintage gloves from posted this on her blog, which was so sweet!!

Outfit Details:
Blouse and Wedge Shoes: Modcloth
Wrap Skirt: gift from my amazing best friend Emilee (wearing it for about 5 or 6 years)
Flower Hairclip: Lila-Jo

I felt badly that I posted so many more old photos of Leto in my Motherhood entry than of my younger son Micah, so here's a new one of Micah. I think he looks so much like my darling husband Rob here but with my color eyes.

I was hanging with one of my best friends Brienne (I've posted photos of her a few times in the past year. She also has two sons). The second one was taken by accident while we were laughing and I'm glad it was taken. It's so sweet.

The dress I'm wearing is available to buy here in different sizes, and yes that is me modeling it for this shop
