Movie Ratings are on a scale of 1-5. Anything rated over 3 stars and is in bold, is totally worth seeing! - I rate pretty harshly.
Sucker Punch 2011 (w/ Emily Browning, Jena Malone, Abbie Cornish, Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung) - 3.75 stars - I wrote a very detailed review for this movie here. The short of it is that a girl is put into a mental institution that is really just a brothel in disguise (hello slavery joint). "Baby Doll" is setting out to find and take 5 items to get her out of there (and save some others along with her if possible). Every time that she dances, she goes into a fantasy world to help find these items, fighting for freedom. It was a great movie but that is because it seemed to target human trafficking. It was beautifully done and was very imaginative. content: girls in immodest outfits throughout the movie, violence (mainly fantasy based), a few profanities
The Turning Point 1977 (w/ Anne Bancroft, Shirley McClaine, Leslie Browne) - 1.75 stars - The dancing was the only thing I liked in this movie. Goodness I always forget that ratings for "PG" movies from the 70s and 80s usually are more PG-13 on the border of R. This movie was about a woman and her family who are filled with ballet dancers. The oldest daughter wants to dance for the rest of her life. The mother gave up her life of dancing to have her daughter. The mother's best friend whom she didn't see for years danced her whole life, living the dream her friend wishes she could have had. Drama drama drama between them all. content: language, dance costumes that are risque and shows a lot of cold nipples, a scene that was sexual with making out and who knows what else (not sure what was in it, as I skipped in on netflix instant play), a "cat fight"
When You're Strange (documentary) 2009 - 2.75 stars - This is about the band The Doors, mainly Jim Morrison and the life he had. I didn't learn anything new from what I already knew other than where "Mr. Mojo Risin'" came from. The Doors used to be one of my all time favorite bands but sadly I have a hard time these days trying to listen to them because their lives depress me. If you really don't know anything about the band though this would be a good way to learn about them. content: language, There is nudity and sexuality in this when they talk about woodstock, a film that he made, drugs, alcohol, smoking, Jim Morrison skinny dipping, and a couple other things mentioned where they didn't really have to show anything but they did.
Cars 2 2011 (animated w/ voices of Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, Michael Caine) - 3.5 stars - We took our boys to see this because they LOVE Cars. They adored this one probably even more! We thought it was cute too! The story is set a few years after the first movie. This time there is a race around Europe with all the best race cars going against one another. There is a new fuel being used for it, but something sketchy is happening on the race track and the fuel is being targeted. There are some spies trying to get in on a lead and Mater might be getting mixed into it, the trouble maker that he seems to be. content: name calling, girls checking out a race car that is not their actual love interest, some surprising violence
Citizen Kane 1941 (w/ Orson Welles, Joseph Cotten, Dorothy Comingore, Agnew Moorehead, Ruth Warrick) - 3 stars - Talk about beautiful cinematography, this has it plenty. The fictional story is about the life of a man named Charles Kane who is taught to become rich from the earliest part of his life. He longs for success and making it big. In the process he gains and loses some friends and wives. It's a sad story. The whole story begins and follows reporters trying to find out the mystery behind his last word on his deathbed. It was interesting and good! I was told to see this film ages and ages ago and am glad I finally got around to doing it. content: the idea of people having an affair, drinking
Gnomeo & Juliet 2011 (animated w/ voices of James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Ashley Jensen, Michael Caine, and so many others) - 2.75 stars - A story based on Romeo and Juliet but set in the lives of garden gnomes which was really a cute concept. This has a twist apart from the original story though. They make it more of a comedy than a tragedy. It was cute. content: violence of gnomes against each other and goodness it is innuendo city. I don't know how this got a G rating
Featured Band &Album:
Monsters of Folk's self-titled album [2009]
I know some of you are fans of She & Him with M. Ward. This is something he is involved with as well as Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst & Mike Mogis as well as My Morning Jacket's Jim James. I only recently heard of this because my husband had been listening to it, and he kept it from me for some time that was odd to me, because I'm more into folk music than he is! There are a lot of beautiful songs in this. I like "His Master's Voice" best. I love good harmonies. Other good songs are "Dear God", "The Sandman, The Brakeman, & Me", and "Say Please". They are all really good though.

Thank you to Rebecca of Singing in His Name again for allowing me to borrow this really pretty dress (she sent me a few at once, so nice)!! We went into PA (near/in Philly) to visit the first person I ever called "best friend" whom I've known since I was 7. Rachel and her husband Elliott are an awesome couple who married the same day Rob and I married (June 19th), but 5 years later (we both got to cry at each other's weddings). They just had a gorgeous little girl named Gwendolyn Shiloh (which means Beautiful Peace). It was really wonderful to see them (since we don't get a chance to as often as we would love to). I took some photos of their family while we were there.
Had to show off these great sleeves as much as possible
Me & Rachel
Reason why I'm doing this #7:
Shortly after the visit I had with Rachel, she asked me how to find out more about learning where products come from and if they are of slave labor or not. One really great site where you can find out more about consumerism slavery is at ProductsOfSlavery. For instance, In their map you can click on a country like Argentina, China, Jordan, Malaysia, India, or Thailand and you can see that there are loads of issues in those countries regarding Garments that are created by children. On the side there is information and PDF files you can read on that type of slavery.
For instance, I boycotted Victoria's Secret back four years ago because the people who create their underwear and clothing are in Jordan, and the conditions were found out, but no action was ever taken. The women and children who create these garments for VS work 15 hours a day without making enough money to survive for the hard labor they endure. If they don't make a certain amount in a certain amount of time, the people are beaten. This is slavery. Many people have tried to contact the company and have sent letters (including me) for years trying to find out what actions they will take to give their workers better pay & working conditions considering how rich they are! A place you can go to in order to send these letters out is here (directly taking you to VS' letter). Every year many products are reviewed and are given grades for if they are free/fair-trade or not. Victoria's Secret continues to ignore inquiries about their products. There are many other companies that are gigantic who do this to people in our world. This Victoria here (me) is very sad about this (and I won't keep that a secret).

Modest Fashion Features #31
I'm sorry I didn't post this during the weekend, but I had a hard time finding anything inspirational on Saturday, plus I wasn't home much in the afternoon and I was barely home on Sunday too, but when I was, I wasn't on the internet. Sorry. It's been very hot here (and in most places it seems), and that is most likely why I have been having a hard time finding people posting modest outfits this weekend.
I was featured on the lovely Jen Hammer's blog (she's been featured here too before). She's a sweet lady! I always love all her entries.

The Sound of Independence
- Outfit #6 to stand up against modern-day slavery/human trafficking & promote modesty! -If you'd like me to borrow your clothes to spread awareness against human trafficking and promote modesty, please E-mail me: marvelousthingsphoto@gmail.com
I want to thank Dakota of Sweetheart of the Rodeo (once again) for sending this beautiful vintage 50s dress to me to wear. I'm a bit behind in posting holidays and such. A few days before Independence Day, when the United States of America (where I live) celebrates freedom of having a nation to call their own. My friend Loryn & her fiance' Devon asked if we were going to fireworks held at a nearby school. We met up with them there while I mainly ran around chasing my rambunctious children (mainly the little one who didn't want to sit still).

My family in birth order
Look how seriously attached my boys are to their Dad (so beautiful to me).
My heart aches at the many stories I've read about children in countries like Burma & Uganda (and many others), who during violent raids are kidnapped and forced to join their armies. A lot of the girls are forced to become young "wives" to mother children of the young boys or to just satisfy them sexually. If these kids don't kill brutally (mainly looking to rid of adults) which is part of their initiation, they themselves (who are scared and threatened) will be killed. They are forced early on in their lives to be a part of violence and then likewise are made to force others into the same lifestyle they didn't want to be put into. Some run away when they have a chance, but not all (because they get killed if caught, and not just shot, but sometimes butchered slowly). There are a few organizations who work with these victims who get out of this treacherous slavery, and some get reunited with family (but most find out their families were killed). There are so many wounds in these people and a lot of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder issues. I'm really happy to know there are a few organizations that work at helping end these wars and aid the victims (which is not easy work at all). Some of these organizations are World Vision, Invisible Children, and Project AK-47. Perhaps in the future I'll talk more about what their individual work entails and focus on many of the countries that have child soldiers.
If you are from the U.S. I hope you can understand the great freedom you have where you don't need to constantly fear for your life and your children. Are there fears? Of course, but each night these people most likely wonder if they'll see the light of the next day at all.
"If we stay in Burma, the SPDC (The State Peace and Development Council) come to foce us to work; they burn our homes and villages and therefore we can't stay there. If we return to Burma, the SPDC soldiers will kill us - or force the local people to do so." -24 year old woman trying to survive in a village
"If you behaved well, you were treated better. When someone tried to escape, everyone was lined up and forced to beat the escapee to death. They taught us where to hit. I did this three times. We were given military training, in handling guns, and fitness training for three months. Then we were given guns and told to loot food from villages in Uganda. We attached people when they were going to fetch water and we killed them if they resisted. We inflicted on others the kind of initiation that had been inflicted on us, so we handed it on to others." -a woman named Sunday, age 18

Playing with Dolls
- Outfit #5 to stand up against modern-day slavery/human trafficking & promote modesty! -
Thank you once again to Rebecca of Singing in His Name for allowing me to borrow this dress!! This dress was a bit big on me but with the belt it fit lovely. It was very comfortable and I loved the tiny flowers all over it. I'll be explaining what's up with the rabbit doll in a second. I borrowed it from my parents (their long-time friend handmade it!). My friend gave me the necklace and the hairclip is from Lila-Jo, as usual!

Nearly 4 years ago I attended a "Freedom Fair" that I was invited to (not really knowing what it was about). The main organization involved had a display table set up. They were called Love146 and had just changed their name (from Justice For Children - I think). It is because of that freedom fair that I learned about human trafficking and became passionate about finding justice for victims of slavery. Love146 has my heartstrings.
I believe little girls should be playing with dolls and gaining an education instead of being forced into prostitution and told to look sexy to gain customers. Yet, this is happening all throughout the world!!!
Children in various parts of the world who are very young are sometimes displayed, sitting in rooms seen through peepholes. They are numbered and then chosen by men to satisfy them sexually. They are not even seen as worth having a name but as a commodity. Love146 wants to take hold of those who are labeled as a number and give them real love and hope for their lives, because they are precious treasures. Love146 places female child victims of sexual slavery into safe-houses to help restore their lives and empower them to gain confidence and reintegrate them so that they will not be put back into sexual slavery and exploitation again. Since most of these children are very young, all they know in life is abuse. It takes a lot of work and a few years for them to feel a sense of freedom. Love146 teaches them, gives them medical treatment, and helps them through art, gardening, and dance therapy (they even have an awesome tree house they can hang out in for therapy).
I truly recommend that you sign up to their mailing list (enter your e-mail address right at the top right corner of their site). They send some of the most heart warming news (such as recently they talked about a woman who had been restored and was able to reintegrate into society with their help. The people who helped her were able to attend her wedding)! They recently started to work with young boys who have been through sexual slavery as well. A lot of these boys are told to dress up as girls as well to fit fetishes of men's desires. It is truly heartbreaking what they are made to do in order to provide money for their "owner" and for men to feel whatever sick pleasures of power by making them please them. Love146 are doing a great work in the lives of many kids who have only known abuse.
"I looked up in the dictionary what the word 'innocent' means and it means 'purity of heart', 'freedom from guilt or fault', 'blameless'. I think children who have been exploited and hurt and broken are still innocent. They haven't lost their innocence. I don't even think their innocence has been stolen from them. I believe they're still innocent the way children should be....These children are not saying 'We don't have a voice.' they're just saying, 'We're not being heard.'... So our job is to really amplify their voice...I'm in this process of learning a new language, a language of hope. The interesting thing is that it is children who are teaching me that." -Rob Morris, President/Co-Founder of Love146.org

Modest Fashion Features #30
My niece was born this past Tuesday, so if you follow my twitter you saw some of my excited posts. I also posted a photo of her on my fb blog fanpage. She's a doll! I'll be posting photos of her soon on my blog too.
I have no more borrowed clothes in my possession right now, so if you've let me know you were going to send something, please do! If you are interested in sending me something and want to know my measurements/size, my email address is marvelousthingsphoto@gmail.com
These are the favorites of the week. Usually I will make the favorite based off of what the Ruby-Eyed Okapi tumblr responses were - which I tend to agree on. Otherwise (like last week) I pick my ultimate favorite, regardless of response. I love how comfortable all these outfits seem to be!!

Movie & Music Suggestion Post #47
Movie Ratings are on a scale of 1-5.  Anything rated over 3 stars and is in bold, is totally worth seeing! - I rate pretty harshly.
Mao's Last Dancer 2010 (w/ Chi Cao, Bruce Greenwood, Amanda Schull, Kyle MacLachlan) - 4.25 stars - Based on true events about Li Cunxin, a young boy who is recruited to become a ballet dancer in communist China. In time he is able to go to the United States where culture is so different to him to dance in Houston, TX. What a really beautiful story. I want to read the autobiography book now. This story pushed the love I always had for ballet to start up again from scratch (so I am doing so). content: a couple suggestive dance costumes, male dancers needing to grab inner thighs of female dancers, kissing scene, talk about virginity/sex (absolutely no nudity), male dancer in a loincloth type of dance costume, men without shirts on, one dance that was a little sexual at the end, I caught maybe only one word of language (in a type of Chinese tongue).
Lullaby of Broadway 1951 (w/ Doris Day, Gladys George, S.Z. Sakall, Gene Nelson) - 2.75 stars - A woman who loves to perform comes home from London to visit her mom, but meets some interesting people as her mom hides out so that her daughter doesn't see she's an alcoholic who plays at lounges (but was formerly on Broadway in her youth). There is a love story involved as well, but a lot of miscommunication involved. I always wanted to see this movie and am glad I finally did. Doris Day is my favorite actress ever. There were some good music and dance numbers in this. Not my favorite of Doris Day at all. content: kissing, smoking, drinking (nothing else that I noticed unless I missed something).
That's What I Am 2011 (w/ Ed Harris, Chase Ellison, Mia Rose Frampton, Alexandar Walters) - 3 stars - This is about a boy who ends up being associated with kids who get bullied. He doesn't want to be put down for being around them, but he also wants to be caring of them. This is about looking past what you believe about a person and seeing the real heart of the person and the talent they might have outside of their appearances. It was good. content: bullying, some language from kids, kissing, someone accused of homosexuality
Beastly 2011 (w/ Alex Pettyfer, Vanessa Hudgens, Neil Patrick Harris, Mary-Kate Olsen) - 3 stars - This was a retelling of Beauty and the Beast but in a different way (and more modern. . not like the 90s T.V. show either that I remember my brother loving). A guy who is full of himself ends up cursed and has to find someone who will love him based on who he is, and not on how he looks. There is a girl out there who really seems to be caring of those around her. Perhaps she will love him. I thought it was a cute story, though sometimes a little corny, and it was a little predictable. content: shirtless guy seen often, underage party, kissing, opening sequence has really sexual ads of semi-nude to nude but covered body parts with hands (really they didn't need to include those), cleavage, fight scene, someone overdosed on drugs (but it is not seen at all), some language, someone points a gun at someone else
Dancing Across Borders (documentary) - 2.5 stars - This is about a guy who had only a few years of ballet training when he was picked out of a group of kids in Cambodia to have an opportunity to make a living to provide for his family. They show a bunch of his training videos and let him go home for some of the video as he looks back on his time as a dancing boy in his homeland. It was nice to see all the dancing and what type of training was done for him. Intense long hours that created a professional. content: people dancing in ballet outfits, shirtless man
The Polar Bear King 1991 (w/ Maria Bonnevie, Tobias Hoesl) - 2.25 stars - A king goes under a spell and becomes a Polar Bear. A Princess in a northern land has a kind heart and shows love to the king, but her father does not like being without his precious daughter. The witch who put a spell on him is not happy that he found a wife. This movie was a little corny with the bad overdubbed tracks. The storyline focuses a lot on the heart of the princess/queen and her endurance to break the spell the witch cast on the King. The costumes are pretty cool. The muppet polar bear looked good. I don't think the story held together well enough. content: 1 profanity, nursing mom (nothing shown), woman walking in a heavy wet nightgown in which she is cold wearing it, man & woman in bed together
Devil's Playground 2002 (documentary) - 3.25 stars - screencap is in b&w but there is mainly color in this, just to let you know. This is all about when Amish kids turn 16 and go through "Rumspringa" which means to "fall away", in which they get to party and live in the world doing whatever they want to until they are ready to decide to join the Amish church. This documentary shows what a lot of the kids do and go through in that time (which is sometimes really extreme!!), mainly following one boy named Faron from Indiana (which seems so different from the PA & NY Amish I've seen since I was young). The screen capture is of an Amish couple who decided to not join the Amish church (talks about it more in a deleted scene), leaving the community all together. This left me feeling so down in the dumps after I saw it though. I just really felt sorry for these kids, because they aren't even taught about the physical and mental dangers of some of the things they get into. I felt like I was watching a bunch of rebellious college kids (but younger. . and that is scary to me because I stayed away completely from the lifestyle they indulged in, I was raised in a Christian environment too and never wanted to have a lack of control over my choices and body/mental health). content: kids in bed together, bikinis & underwear worn, kids smoking & drinking & doing drugs, bad language throughout it, kissing, boy looking through porn magazine, girl talking about being a lesbian
Featured Band &Album:
I Can Make a Mess Like Nobody's Business - Gold Rush Album 2011
My husband and I used to listen to the 2004 self-titled album. Yesterday I found out about this latest album. This guy (Ace Enders, formerly of The Early November) is a one-man show. Seriously, watch him in this video to see what I mean (sadly you can't hear the drums though which are in the recording). He records pieces of each of what he writes so he can play them all together live. you can listen to a few of the songs on the album here. I enjoy the songs on the new album probably better than I liked the first album. Yey NJ!

Yey NJ!

Misikko Hana-Air Blow Dryer Review
I received a very nice E-mail from an employee of Misikko a few weeks ago offering me a free Hana-air blow dryer by Misikko for just testing it out and writing up a review for it. I wasn't very sure at first if I would be willing to do it. I thought there was a gimmick involved. However, the communication and correspondence was very quick and sincere. I noticed that the blow dryer cost about $300 (on sale now for $194), so I was in shock that they wanted me to keep their product for simply writing this entry up. I've also known many other bloggers being asked to review their products such as their infrared flat iron too.
When I received the Hana-Air blow dryer it was packaged very professionally. There was a big box filled with goodies (and here I thought I was simply getting the expensive blow dryer). Inside the box were many items and a fake rose sitting on top looking pretty. there was a box in which to put my hair straightener in as well as a little to-go heat-proof case for it. There were little satin bags with a bunch of nail filers and two different hand sanitizers. There was a stuffed animal monkey holding a little comb (which my boys by the way loved the monkey!). Also inside were two large Paul Mitchell shampoo and conditioner bottles! There were two different sized Hana products that are used to protect hair from heat and make it shiny (I used it, which looked lovely. It's photographed for an outfit, but not yet posted on my blog). There was a container of potpourri roses (which is in my underwear drawer now), one of those eye covers for sleeping/spa stuff (sorry, not sure what they are called), and everything was tied up in cute ribbons throughout the packaging.
Now about that best blow dryer: I used it a couple days after I received it. I'm actually not much of a blow-drying type of person (although it takes my long thick hair about 6 hours to air dry sometimes). I tend to like my very wavy hair as it is, so I skip the blow drying (but will do it every so often). This particular Hana-Air blow dryer made my hair fluffier but very pretty. It straightened it pretty well too. It took me a while to figure out how to use it even with the directions though. The cheap $10 hair blower I have used at home for a few years had sort of similar buttons. One switch was used as an on/off and for how much you want of air blowing out of it. They were great speeds (my $10 one had a very very low air that took forever, so this one helps dry my hair so much faster). Another button is for how hot you want it, while the button that confused me up at the top was to make it cool or hot in general. My other blow dryer had to have me hold down the button to have the cool setting, but this one stays put. My husband and sons were in bed as I was using it. My husband stated that it was really loud (even with the bathroom door closed) and in jest said it sounded like $300. Really that is the only downside to it. I loved the cord/wire for it because it doesn't get all tangled up. It's thick and really long so I can walk around the bathroom. It was a good size and felt good to hold (not too light and not too heavy). The heat setting didn't burn my scalp like my other blow dryer tended to do. When I was finished blow drying my hair I could put it in the velvety bag that came with it (as well as a "concentrator" attachment piece).
One of my concerns with being educated on where our products come from and who is getting them for us is that the Congo is one of the only places you can get a type of material called Tungsten, if not the only. There are Three Ts that are found in only three places in the world (Tin, Tungsted, and Tantalum) and usually those types of elements/metals are picked by slave labor (yes especially today, more than ever!). These people are very abused and harmed in gathering them (and suffer greatly, sometimes dying if they don't make quota and get beaten enough). They also don't get enough money to live or provide for their families while companies make loads of money and live comfortably without doing the dirty work. Tungsten is usually used for heating products, so I hope that it is NOT used for the Hana-Air Blow Dryer!

Overall I will have to say that the Hana-Air Blow Dryer is a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars! If slave labor was involved in the making of it, I'll rate it 1.5 though. I was really impressed by all that was sent to me (and felt truly blessed and spoiled all at once, and I don't like that second part at all, but the blessing was because I was just really touched to receive all of that for just writing up a review. That was really kind).

Ripe Red Strawberries
- Outfit #4 to stand up against modern-day slavery/human trafficking & promote modesty! -
A very beautiful dress borrowed from Jessica of Splendiferous Inclinations. Thank you! My husband will sometimes just drive around to find a place to quickly take some photos of me. We were going home from the supermarket with our boys and pulled into a location I have been to many many times. I bought some strawberries for my husband (I'm allergic to fruit) and thought they matched the dress well enough to use as a prop! Find out more about what fruit and slavery have in common below.
I am throwing rocks at oppression (okay I didn't really throw this rock, but I want to destroy slavery).
Reason why I'm doing this #4:
Many of what people in the US (and UK from many news articles I've also read) consume regarding foods (in this case fruits and vegetables) are slave planted/picked (not all, of course). Before I actually knew anything about human trafficking, my husband and I boycotted a certain popular fast food company since they were not properly taking care of or paying their tomato pickers (been boycotted by us for probably 5 or 6 years now). It really made us upset to know that this was going on in our "land of the free". It is best to purchase fair trade foods. Even if they are a little more expensive, they are planted/picked by people who are treated with respect, dignity, and are paid properly for their hard work.
There are many cases that still go on today of people holding slave camps where many immigrants especially don't understand the laws in the US and come hoping for a good job and an opportunity to make money for their families. They often will be told by people in the US that they have just the job for them. They promise them great things but are held in horrible conditions where they are guarded, made to live in confined areas with many people piled in a room with awful conditions (bugs, lack of plumbing, etc) and a lack of food and water. They end up working long hours every day of the week with little to no pay. This is truly commonly found while also horrific that anyone would treat another human being this way so that one/a company can gain power and money for themselves (while people often die because of these conditions, but the slave owner doesn't seem to care).
"In 2001, an African American crew leader named Michael Allen Lee pled guilty to keeping 24 African American orange pickers indebted throughout the 1990s by providing them with crack cocaine." "In September 1999, Abel Cuello Jr, Basilio Cuello, and German Covarrubias, labor contractors from Immokalee, were arrested for the smuggling and involuntary servitude of 27 migrants, who had been held against their will and forced to work in southwestern Florida's tomato fields. " "Perhaps the most vicious case of modern migrant slavery is that of Florida-based labor contractor named Miguel Flores. Flores was indicted in 1996 for enslaving hundreds of Mexican and Guatemalan farm workers on a camp in South Carolina." -John Bowe in his book Nobodies
